Sightseeing Activities in London (Wednesday, 19 November 2025)

On Wednesday, 19 November 2025, there is the opportunity to participate in some “unofficial” group activities. We’ll split into two unofficial groups to explore London’s attractions and vibrant shopping areas. Below are options for each group (there is no entry charge to these locations).

Group A: Museum & Cultural Highlights

1. British Museum
   • Home to the Rosetta Stone, Parthenon sculptures, and treasures from around the world.
2. National Gallery (Trafalgar Square)
   • Renowned collection of European paintings from the 13th to 19th centuries (e.g., Van Gogh, Turner).
3. Tate Modern (Bankside)
   • Contemporary and modern art housed in a former power station.
4. Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) (South Kensington)
   • Decorative arts and design spanning 5,000 years—fashion, ceramics, furniture.
5. Natural History Museum (South Kensington)
   • Dinosaur skeletons, the Hintze Hall blue whale, and interactive science displays.
6. Science Museum (South Kensington)
   • Hands-on galleries covering everything from space exploration to medical history.

Group B: Iconic Free Sights & Shopping Streets

1. Covent Garden Piazza & Market
   
   • Historic marketplace with street performers, boutiques, and artisan stalls.
   • Browse without cost; window-shop and enjoy live entertainment in the central piazza.
2. Southbank Walk & Tate Modern Exterior
   • Stroll along the Thames from London Eye to Millennium Bridge.
   • Pass by Shakespeare’s Globe (outside only) and see breathtaking riverside views.
3. Trafalgar Square & National Portrait Gallery (Free Lobby)
   • Iconic plaza with Nelson’s Column; free to wander.
   • Peek into the National Portrait Gallery’s foyer (though its main exhibits require a ticket).
4. Oxford Street & Regent Street
   • Europe’s busiest shopping avenue—flagship stores like Selfridges, John Lewis, Hamleys.
   • Regent Street’s historic façades and seasonal window displays (especially festive in November).
5. Carnaby Street & King’s Road (Chelsea)
   • Boutiques, independent labels, and iconic ’60s-vibe streetscape.
   • Wander free and pop into concept stores or cafés along the way.
6. Hyde Park (Winter Wonderland Area)
   • While Winter Wonderland rides cost extra, strolling through the park and viewing decorations is free.
   • Nearby Speakers’ Corner and Serpentine Lake offer classic London park scenery.

Logistics & Tips

• Meeting Point: We aim to gather at 10:00 AM near the main entrance of the British Museum (Great Russell St) for a quick orientation, then split into Group A and Group B.
• Transportation: Use the Tube (nearest stations: Tottenham Court Road for British Museum / Covent Garden for Group B’s initial stop) or buses.
• Lunch Break: Plan to reconvene around 1:00 PM for an optional group lunch—nearby cafés include Morelli’s Gelato (South Kensington) for Group A or Dishoom (Covent Garden) for Group B. (Lunch is self-catered / paid directly by the delegates).
• Weather Consideration: Mid-November can be chilly (around 8 °C / 46 °F). Dress in layers, carry an umbrella, and wear comfortable shoes.
